The institution has a robust and transparent grievance redressal system. Students can report their grievances in writing to the college authority through a general form. The grievance redressal system of the College comprises the following committees & sub-committees:

1. Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) has constituted an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) as per the recommendations of UGC and Section 4(1) of the sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The ICC ensures an environment free of sexual harassment and threats gender-based violence. It adopts a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual misconduct — whether explicit or implicit — and also provides support to those who are either studying or working in the institute by promptly addressing complaints of sexual harassment or misconduct (if any).

Anti-Ragging Policy

Jamini Mazumder Memorial College has a Zero Tolerance Policy with regard to ragging and ensures a completely ragging free environment in the college premises.

Definition of Ragging

Ragging is a cognizable offence (an offence for which the police can arrest the offender without warrant) and a grave violation of human rights.

The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India defines Ragging as:

“Any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness any other student, indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student, or asking the students to do any actor perform something which such student will not in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student.”

The University Grant’s Commission (UGC) has notified in the 3rd Amendment in UGC Regulations on 29th June, 2016 to expand the definition of ragging by including the following:

“Any act of physical or mental abuse (including bullying and exclusion) targeted at another student (fresher or otherwise) on the ground of colour, race, religion, caste, ethnicity, gender (including transgender), sexual orientation, appearance, nationality, regional origins, linguistic identity, place of birth, place of residence or economic background.”

Anti-Ragging Cell (ARC) of Jamini Mazumder Memorial College:

In view of the recommendations of the UGC we, at Jamini Mazumder Memorial College, have constituted an Internal Complaints Committee and Anti-Ragging Cell.  The Anti-Ragging Cell of the college is the Supervisory and Advisory body that is committed to preserving a culture of ragging free environment in the college campus.  The ARC is involved in designing strategies and action plan for curbing the Menace of Ragging in the college by adopting a strict zero tolerance policy against ragging and spreading awareness among students through a wide range of activities. An affidavit is obtained from every student as per the anti-ragging guidelines issued by UGC. Students in distress due to incidents of ragging in the campus are advised to bring it to the immediate notice of the college ARC.

Activities of the Anti-Ragging Cell (ARC)

The college is committed to maintain a healthy, ragging free campus. Through the following activities the ARC seeks to ensure a ragging free, safe and healthy environment in the campus:

  1. Regular meetings are held to find out whether any such cases had been reported.
  2. Anti-ragging harassment posters are displayed in the college campus.
  3. The college has been tireless in its efforts to foster healthy values among students. They are consistently sensitized about the consequences of ragging.
  4. Awareness-raising programmes are conducted from time to time to complement the effort.
  5. Consistent dissemination of information on anti-ragging rules & regulations are undertaken to maintain a ragging free campus.
  6. Places in the campus where ragging may occur are regularly inspected including surprise visits to classrooms.

We are fortunate that no such cases have occurred in our college till date.

Committee Members: The List of Committee members will be published soon.

Policy for Prevention of Sexual Harassment in the Campus Jamini Mazumder Memorial College is committed to providing a campus that is free of sexual harassment regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation caste, creed, race, religion, place of origin, disability, or economic status.
